About Elverum
Elverum’s competitive advantage is the closeness to nature. The county consists mostly of forest, and Elverum can safely be called the forest capital of Norway. But not only is there mile upon mile of woodland, Norway’s longest river, Glomma, runs straight through the town.
Natural forests and lakes provide exciting possibilities to experience flora and fauna in virgin nature, and our museums reflect the relationship between local nature and local inhabitants – with forestry, timber floating, hunting and angling.
The Norwegian Forestry Museum is known as one of Norway’s best museums and the Glomdal Museum is one of the country’s largest open-air museums. The two museums are linked together by bridges crossing the Glomma river, and the outdoor areas at both museums are well-suited for bicycling and walks.
Elverum is a major regional centre for both commercial and cultural events alike. Traditionally held in March, Grundsetmart’n is one of the country’s oldest market fairs, and the annual Festspillene (cultural festival) -- featuring the Norwegian Youth Symphony -- is held in August every year.
The wide selection of shops within a small area makes the city the perfect setting for an enjoyable shopping adventure.
